Delivery to Boulder is Zone E — $1,200 each way, with a separate pickup trip at the same Zone E rate when the rental ends. The truck starts at our Gypsum yard, 144 road miles from Boulder, so distance has to make sense against the expected months of use.
Boulder work has a particular mix of institutional gates, constrained infill and greenfield sites that do not yet have power. The University of Colorado Boulder and the U.S. Department of Commerce Boulder Laboratories, which house NOAA, NIST and NTIA, make campus and laboratory logistics part of the local construction picture (U.S. Department of Commerce).
Does the Boulder delivery charge work for your schedule?
Start with the whole structure: one $1,200 trip to place each unit, monthly rent for at least the applicable minimum term, and one $1,200 trip to retrieve it. A Base 20 ft office is $795/mo with a three-month minimum, while a 20 ft storage container is $295/mo with a one-month minimum.
That makes the office a multi-month decision, not a convenient short rental. Over a long laboratory buildout, campus renovation or phased commercial job, the two truck trips are spread across many useful months. Over a brief punch-list job, the haul can dominate the order, particularly if all you need is one storage box.
Ask every yard the same questions before comparing totals. What is delivery to the exact Boulder ZIP, what is pickup, what reservation deposit is due, what is the damage waiver rate, and which office features or furnishings cost extra? Also ask whether a move to a second address becomes another pickup and delivery, because monthly rent alone does not answer the delivered-cost question.
JOLT includes a mini-split, 50-amp shore-power inlet, lights, outlets and vinyl-plank floor in the Base office. The office also has a 36-inch steel personnel door and two barred slider windows. When another quote arrives, ask whether those items are included, whether the box is one-trip, and what the furniture, internet, camera and power lines add.
The damage waiver is 12% of rent plus recurring upgrades. Its deductible and exclusions, including the exclusion for theft, are in Rental Agreement §12. The environmental fee is 5% of the same base and does not compound on the waiver, so both percentages belong in your side-by-side review.
When should you choose a nearby Front Range yard instead?
Choose a local yard for one storage box on a short job, a same-week need that is not a Base office, or a site that is likely to move across Boulder. Those are poor matches for a truck coming 144 road miles from Gypsum, and saying that early saves both sides a quote that will not pencil.
An address change matters. The customer cannot relocate a unit, while an on-site move performed by JOLT is $450 under Rental Agreement §5.5. Moving from a north Boulder lot to a second address across town requires retrieval and a new delivery, so a local fleet is usually the practical choice when the site plan is fluid.
Same-week timing is equally plain. Standard delivery is 2–4 weeks from reservation for all units; JOLT Express places only a Base 20 ft office on site within 7 business days for $750. If you need a storage container, Grid-Free office, fence or light tower this week, call a closer yard rather than treating the standard window as flexible.
JOLT becomes worth a look when an office will stay for multiple phases, or when one reservation covers an office, storage, temporary fence, traffic control and a hand-wash station. The pricing overview puts the recurring and one-time lines in one place, while the mobile office cost guide gives a framework for comparing a full term instead of a headline month.
What must be settled before a Boulder truck is dispatched?
Reserve first, pay the listed deposit and plan around the 2–4 week standard window. A representative who can direct final placement must be present, and the route through the gate, staging area and site must be approved before the truck leaves Gypsum.
Campus and laboratory owners may impose their own contractor rules and delivery hours. Get those requirements from the owner, verify gate access for the delivery vehicle and give the driver a contact who can resolve a placement question. An owner's allowed window can be narrower than the rental delivery window, so that coordination belongs in the site-logistics plan.
A 20 ft unit needs about 70 ft of straight-line clearance, and a 40 ft unit needs about 100 ft. Both need a firm, level, well-drained pad plus adequate turning room and overhead clearance under Rental Agreement §5.2; review the space needed for container delivery and the truck used for delivery with the field team.
Tight Hill and north Boulder lots deserve a measured truck path, not a guess from an aerial view. Mark the intended door direction and corners, remove parked vehicles from the approach, and check that fencing does not close the exit path after placement. A 40 ft unit that fits on the plan can still fail if the truck lacks 100 ft to unload.
If access, the pad or the site representative is not ready, the failed trip is charged and delivery is rescheduled under Rental Agreement §5.3. Use the jobsite setup checklist before dispatch, even though the final miles are urban.

Which permitting office and owner rules apply?
The City of Boulder and Boulder County are separate permitting jurisdictions. Determine whether the placement is inside city limits, then ask that authority about the container, office, fence and any use of public right of way, and raise the question before reservation rather than after the delivery window opens.
The customer holds all permits, zoning approvals, HOA and landlord consents under Rental Agreement §5.2(d). Ask whether a temporary construction unit is covered by the underlying project approval, whether separate placement review applies, and whether owner standards add a gate, screening or working-hours condition. JOLT cannot approve the site on the customer's behalf.
Boulder Creek adds a placement question for sites near its floodplain. The customer should verify the mapped condition and acceptable location with the governing authority; do not infer that an active building permit settles temporary-unit placement. The broad Colorado process is covered in the container permit answer.
Rebuilding after the Marshall Fire requires careful jurisdiction checking. The fire burned in Boulder County east of the city on December 30, 2021, and rebuilding there falls under county, Louisville and Superior jurisdictions rather than the City of Boulder (Boulder County). Do not send a city approval question to the wrong desk merely because the mailing address says Boulder.
Institutional work adds a second layer after public approvals. CU Boulder and the federal laboratories can set contractor access rules, badging steps and delivery hours for their properties, so treat the owner's logistics approval as separate from a city or county permit. Record both contacts on the reservation and keep the authorized placement representative available through unloading.
How should a foothills site handle wind and winter?
Boulder sits against the foothills, where downslope windstorms are a recognized winter hazard (National Weather Service Boulder). Place loose site materials with that exposure in mind, avoid setting temporary fence panels on an exposed crest, and do not treat privacy screen as a neutral addition.
Screened fence needs ballast arranged by the customer. Discuss the screen and exposure before ordering, keep the run away from positions where wind can work under it, and inspect stands and clamps as site conditions change. The panels themselves are galvanized chain link, 6 ft tall by 10 ft wide, with steel tube stands and clamps.
Snow and ice create separate duties. The customer clears roofs, condensers, panels, doors and access paths under Rental Agreement §7.4, including a clear route for service and eventual pickup. The winter office answer explains why the condenser and doorway matter as much as the thermostat.
Every office has mini-split heat and cooling. The Alpine office at $1,895/mo adds a standing-seam over-roof, covered entry deck and backup heat to Grid-Free, while the Base unit uses its 50-amp shore-power inlet. Ask how to heat a winter office before selecting a tier.
For winter concrete or frozen access work, a ground heater is $1,450/mo in season and has a one-month minimum. It is a trailer-mounted hydronic ground and thaw heater with insulated hose on a reel, built to thaw ground and cure concrete. A light tower at $1,250/mo supplies four LED floodlights on a mast reaching about 30 ft for work beyond daylight.
Which box fits campus, lab or constrained infill work?
The 12 ft storage container is often the useful answer for a constrained north Boulder or Hill lot. It is 8 ft wide and standard height, with a man door and one barred window on the long side plus cargo doors at the end, so crews can use it as a walk-in tool crib where the 20 ft footprint is too long.
The 10 ft storage container is the smallest box at $225/mo. It is also 8 ft wide and standard height, with a walk-in man door and barred window on the long side and cargo doors on the end. Ask whether that access pattern is useful before choosing purely on length.
For ordinary material storage, the 20 ft unit is a one-trip standard-height ISO container with cargo doors, four lock bars and a welded lockbox. It has no windows or personnel door. The one-trip container answer explains the term to use when another yard describes its box differently.
The 40 ft storage container at $425/mo works for a broad finish package on a long project. It is a one-trip high-cube unit, 9 ft 6 in tall, with cargo doors and a welded lockbox; it also carries a three-month minimum and requires the longer delivery approach.
Office choice begins with power and term. Base suits a multi-month staffed site with shore power, Grid-Free combines Base with WATCH, CONNECT, POWER and a 10 kWh battery, and Alpine adds its winter exterior and backup heat to Grid-Free. The 20 ft office overview and office size guide separate tier selection from footprint selection.
A 40 ft office with bathroom costs $1,595/mo and places an enclosed bathroom at the far end. It also includes a mini-split, 50-amp inlet, lights, outlets and vinyl-plank floor, but the larger box needs about 100 ft of straight-line clearance.
What powers a greenfield office and connects an empty weekend site?
For greenfield and rebuild work without shore power, Grid-Free is the direct office choice. At $1,495/mo, it includes everything in Base plus WATCH, CONNECT and POWER with a 10 kWh battery pack that runs the HVAC; no shore power is required.
A Base office can instead take POWER for $399/mo. Its two 400 W panels, 3 kWh LFP battery and inverter run Starlink, a camera, lights and laptops, but not the mini-split. The off-grid power guide helps match that distinction to site loads.
CONNECT at $259/mo adds a Starlink Mini and router with 50 GB Roam, with unlimited Starlink available for $75/mo. WATCH at $129/mo adds a solar LTE panoramic camera with motion alerts and cloud clips, useful when a campus edge or rebuild site empties over a weekend.
The JOLT Pack combines WATCH, CONNECT and POWER for $699/mo. Ask another yard what camera hardware, cloud service, data allowance, solar equipment and battery are actually included rather than comparing one bundle name to another.
| Situation | Choice | What it includes | Monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shore power is ready | Base office | Mini-split, inlet, lights and outlets | $795/mo |
| No shore power, including HVAC | Grid-Free office | Base, WATCH, CONNECT, POWER and 10 kWh battery | $1,495/mo |
| Small loads on a Base office | POWER | Solar, 3 kWh battery and inverter | $399/mo |
| Internet is missing | CONNECT | Starlink Mini, router and 50 GB Roam | $259/mo |
| Weekend visibility | WATCH | Solar LTE camera, alerts and cloud clips | $129/mo |
| Camera, internet and small-load power | JOLT Pack | WATCH, CONNECT and POWER | $699/mo |
Satellite, LTE and solar depend on sky view, weather, third-party networks and site load. Rental Agreement §13.2 makes no uptime promise, and §13.3 puts required camera recording notices on the customer. Use the site security answer to plan the camera as one layer rather than a substitute for locks and site control.

Questions contractors ask
How much is the truck trip to Boulder?
Boulder is in Zone E, so delivery is $1,200 and pickup is $1,200 from the Gypsum yard. The same trip fee applies to a 12 ft storage box and a 40 ft office.
What delivery window should a Boulder superintendent plan around?
The standard window is 2–4 weeks from reservation for every unit. A Base 20 ft office can be on site within 7 business days through JOLT Express for $750, but Express does not apply to other units.
Is JOLT economical for one short storage rental in Boulder?
Usually not, because two $1,200 trips outweigh a short run of rent on a $295/mo 20 ft storage container. A nearby Front Range yard is usually the better call for that order.
What are the minimum rental periods?
Offices and the 40 ft storage container have a 3-month minimum, while other storage, fence and equipment have a 1-month minimum. Afterward, rent continues month to month until 15 days' written notice and retrieval.
What deposit reserves a Boulder order?
The deposit is $750 for an office or 40 ft unit, $350 for a 10, 12 or 20 ft storage container, and $500 for fence or a light tower. It is applied to the first invoice.
How does cancellation work before Boulder delivery?
At no cost, if your written cancellation reaches us more than 14 days before the first day of the delivery window; the deposit comes back in full. Inside 14 days the deposit is forfeited.
Which office works before site power reaches a Boulder project?
Grid-Free costs $1,495/mo and includes WATCH, CONNECT and POWER with a 10 kWh battery that runs the HVAC. A Base office costs $795/mo, and POWER can be added for $399/mo to run Starlink, a camera, lights and laptops, but not the mini-split.
What recurring percentages appear on an invoice?
The damage waiver is 12% of rent plus recurring upgrades, and the environmental fee is 5% of the same base without compounding on the waiver. Rent rises 5% on each anniversary of delivery.
