Light towers for the dark half of the year

A trailer-mounted light tower rents for $1,250/mo from our yard in Gypsum, plus the applicable zone delivery fee, and a $500 deposit reserves it. The standard delivery window is 2–4 weeks and the minimum term is 1 month, for work that has to continue after daylight ends.

What kind of work needs a light tower?

This is the piece of equipment for a defined work area that becomes unsafe or unproductive when daylight disappears. The four LED floodlights rise on a mast to about 30 ft, letting the superintendent position the source above parked equipment, material piles and the immediate task instead of relying on several lights at ground level.

Winter shifts are the obvious case. NOAA sunrise and sunset tables show December sunsets before 5pm across Colorado's mountain valleys, so a normal workday can continue long after natural light is gone. A tower gives the crew a planned transition from daylight to artificial light instead of a rushed shutdown at dusk.

Night paving and utility work use the same equipment for a different scheduling reason. A lane closure, tie-in or service interruption may happen when traffic or customer demand is lower. Set the tower before the closure starts, test the aim, and keep the active work face visible while the crew excavates, places material or restores pavement.

What does the monthly rental cost?

Monthly rent is $1,250/mo. That is the equipment rate, not an all-in delivered total, because delivery depends on the job address and fuel depends on how many hours the crew runs the unit.

The reservation deposit is applied to the first invoice under Rental Agreement §2. It holds a specific unit and delivery window. To receive a full refund, cancel in writing more than 14 days before the first day of that window; cancellation inside 14 days or refusal at delivery forfeits the deposit.

Rent starts when the tower is delivered and is due through the minimum term. After the minimum, it continues month to month until JOLT receives at least 15 days' written pickup notice and retrieves the equipment. Rates rise by 5% on each anniversary of delivery, while sales tax and the published recurring charges remain separate invoice lines.

The damage waiver is 12% of rent and recurring upgrades, and the environmental fee is 5% of those same charges without compounding on the waiver. The waiver covers accidental damage subject to its deductible and exclusions; it is not insurance, and theft, vandalism and unauthorized relocation are excluded under Rental Agreement §12.

Use the pricing overview to compare the tower with other rental items. Then enter the site address in delivery zones, because the each-way truck fee is based on location. Light towers use the standard 2–4 week window and are not eligible for JOLT Express.

What is included with the tower?

The package is one trailer-mounted light tower. It has a generator cabinet on a single-axle trailer, four LED floodlights on a mast that reaches about 30 ft, and the outriggers or stabilizer jacks fitted to the assigned unit for leveling it after placement. Those are the operating parts the crew should identify during handoff.

Do not plan the shift around an assumed run time, tank capacity, lumen output or coverage radius. We do not publish those figures because they belong to the specific unit assigned to your order; the instructions that come with that tower state them. Crew size, terrain, weather, competing light sources and the way fixtures are aimed all change what useful illumination looks like on a real site.

The customer supplies fuel and returns the tower at the level recorded when it was delivered, as required by Rental Agreement §7.5. Assign one person to check fuel, document the delivered level and coordinate refueling so that responsibility does not disappear between day and night shifts.

The customer also operates the tower according to its instructions under Rental Agreement §7.2. The handoff and manufacturer instructions control starting, shutdown, mast movement and other operating steps. If an operator has not been briefed, keep the unit down and out of service until a qualified person completes that briefing.

JOLT may substitute equipment of equal or greater specification at the same price under §2.3, so we do not promise a particular make, model or control layout. The operator needs to walk around the delivered tower and use the instructions that accompany that specific unit.

Can WATCH, CONNECT or POWER go on it?

No upgrade kit stacks on a light tower. WATCH, CONNECT and POWER are built for a rented office or storage container, not the tower trailer, so do not include them in the tower's operating assumptions or attempt to attach hardware to its cabinet or mast.

The practical arrangement is a light tower at the work face and a container at the site office or laydown yard. Put WATCH on that container when the superintendent needs a solar LTE panoramic camera, motion alerts and cloud clips. Its view should cover the tower's parking area or access route without using the tower as a mounting point.

POWER is the quieter option for a camera and lights on a container. Its solar panels, battery and inverter can serve WATCH, Starlink, container lights and laptops, but it is not a replacement for the raised four-light output and trailer mobility of a light tower. Keep the two scopes separate when ordering.

A camera also does not replace locking, inventory controls or proper lighting. LTE and solar performance depend on sky view, weather and load, and uptime is not promised under Rental Agreement §13. The customer is responsible for recording signs and any consents required at the site.

If the crew works from a heated office near the tower, review whether a container office works in winter. That decision concerns the container's envelope, heat and power. It does not change how the tower is fueled, stabilized or operated.

What does the site need before delivery?

Choose level, firm, well-drained ground where all outriggers can be fully deployed. The operating position needs to stay outside haul paths, snow-storage areas, excavation limits and the swing or travel path of other equipment. Mark that position before our truck arrives and keep it open.

Look up before looking out. The mast must remain clear of overhead power, communications and temporary utility lines throughout raising, operation and lowering. Also check trees, building edges, cranes and any work that will add overhead hazards later in the rental.

Aim the fixtures away from neighbors and traffic. Glare toward a public road can work against the visibility the crew is trying to create, and spill light toward nearby homes or lodging can create an avoidable conflict. Set the aim while there is enough ambient light to see site boundaries, then verify it after dark from the road and property edge.

Walk the work area from the operator's position rather than judging it only from the tower. Material piles, machines and grade changes make hard shadows. Reposition work or adjust fixture aim according to the instructions if a travel path, trench edge or task area is obscured.

The customer is responsible for permits, right to use the placement area, and landlord or property approvals. Utilities must be located and marked, and a site representative must be present to direct placement. Our driver places the equipment where that representative directs, and site damage resulting from the directed placement remains the customer's responsibility under Rental Agreement §5.

Snow management is part of keeping the placement usable. Maintain a clear access path for checks, fueling and retrieval, and remove snow, ice and debris as required by §7.4. Do not let plowed banks close around the trailer or hide outriggers from vehicles working nearby.

How does delivery from Gypsum work?

Reserve online after the job address, operating area and desired window are known. Standard delivery is 2–4 weeks from reservation. The live availability badge at the top of the page shows whether a unit can be selected or the request goes to the waitlist.

Our truck carries the tower from our yard in Gypsum to the marked site. A representative must meet the driver, confirm the placement, note the fuel level and receive the equipment handoff. Delivery does not replace site planning, so resolve access and overhead conflicts before dispatch.

Delivery to Gypsum, our home town, is Zone A — $400 each way. Silverthorne is Zone C — $750 each way, while Idaho Springs, Georgetown and Morrison on the Front Range side of the tunnel are Zone E — $1,200 each way. Pickup in Zones A–E costs the same as delivery.

Mountain routes and winter access make accurate site information important. Tell us about narrow gates, steep approaches, chain restrictions, low branches, soft shoulders and turnarounds when reserving. A clear description lets dispatch match the route and delivery plan to the address rather than discovering a blocked approach with the equipment already loaded.

The tower may not be moved or lifted by the customer after placement. Contact JOLT if the work face changes and relocation is needed. Unauthorized relocation can damage the trailer, put the mast in conflict with a line, and it voids the damage waiver under Rental Agreement §5.5.

What happens during use and at pickup?

Start each shift with a walk-around. Confirm the tower is level, outriggers remain set, the mast area is clear, fixtures are aimed correctly and the access around the cabinet is free of snow and stored material. Follow the unit instructions rather than carrying settings forward from another make or model.

Track fuel as a site consumable. The customer buys it, handles it under the site's fuel procedures and restores the delivered level before return. Keep the delivery record with the daily equipment paperwork so the pickup crew is not reconstructing the starting level at the end of the job.

Protect the tower from traffic with the site's approved controls, but never attach signs, banners, cameras or makeshift lights to it. Rental Agreement §7 prohibits unauthorized alterations, including drilling, cutting, painting or removing JOLT signage and telematics. Report a problem instead of modifying the equipment.

When the work is nearly complete, send at least 15 days' written notice for retrieval. The tower must be clean, accessible, free of attachments, lowered into its transport condition as instructed and ready for our truck. Rent continues until JOLT retrieves it.

Do not box the trailer in with pallets, spoil, fencing or parked machines. Preserve the same practical route used at delivery and clear accumulated snow. A failed pickup trip is charged under Rental Agreement §16, so have the site representative confirm access before the truck leaves Gypsum.

At handoff, compare the return condition and fuel level with the delivery record. Remove all customer property and waste. The driver retrieves JOLT's equipment; the customer closes out its own lighting plan, fuel handling and nearby traffic controls.

The monthly term does not stop merely because the last night shift ended. Written notice and actual retrieval close the Rental Period. Review the complete rental process early enough to put that notice date on the superintendent's closeout schedule.
