Pac-Van alternatives for container and office rental in the Mountain West

Pac-Van is no longer the baseline company name for a new comparison. United Rentals acquired General Finance Corporation, Pac-Van's parent, in 2021, and pacvan.com now opens the United Rentals storage containers and mobile offices page. This page therefore uses United Rentals for the baseline facts and ranks alternatives after that row.

For a former Pac-Van customer, the practical change is that the account now sits with a national general-equipment renter. United Rentals lists storage containers, office containers, office trailers and modular buildings, with relevant specialty branches in Henderson, Murray and Boise. It directs pricing to a quote and advises customers to schedule delivery well in advance (unitedrentals.com, acquisition history page, the three storage and mobile office branch pages and the solution page, checked September 11, 2026).

What changed for a Pac-Van customer?

The old name should not be treated as a separate quote option. Ask United Rentals which current branch, agreement and unit applies to your job. If you have an old Pac-Van layout or asset description, attach it to the request and ask for the closest currently offered unit in writing.

Keep the comparison narrow. A storage container, ground-level office, office trailer and modular building solve different site problems. Record whether occupancy is required, the desired interior layout, shore-power availability, delivery ZIP, placement clearance, rental duration and needed delivery week before contacting anyone.

The table below starts with United Rentals because it owns the former Pac-Van operation. Regional operators that still run their own yards

If the regional-yard relationship mattered in a Pac-Van order, build a state-specific call list. A yard shown on an operator's own site is useful evidence of physical presence, but it is not a promise that your unit is available. Confirm inventory and the delivery week.

Colorado and Utah. Dry Box has Denver and Salt Lake City yards, lists storage and container offices, prints starting rates, and says next-day delivery is often available near Salt Lake City (dryboxusa.com, locations page, rent a container page and 1 other page, checked September 11, 2026). It is a direct call when a container format and visible starting rate matter.

Satellite Shelters operates a Commerce City branch and lists mobile offices, modular buildings, ground-level offices and storage containers. It asks for a 30-day minimum where possible and sends customers to a local representative for delivery pricing (satelliteco.com, Denver branch page, FAQ page and 1 other page, checked September 11, 2026). Choose it for a listed ground-level office or larger modular requirement.

Warehouse on Wheels trades in Colorado as Colorado Trailer Rentals from Denver and Colorado Springs drop lots. It lists storage trailers, ground-level storage containers, and 20 ft and 40 ft office-and-storage combos on 30-day rentals, with arrival in 24 to 48 hours (warehouseonwheels.com, Colorado Trailer Rentals brand page, checked September 11, 2026). Pick it when a combo layout or storage trailer fits the scope.

Storm's Specialty Services has a Grand Junction yard, lists storage containers and mobile office trailers, and says the quoted cost includes delivery and placement (storms-specialty.com, contact page, about page and 1 other page, checked September 11, 2026). It belongs on a Western Slope or eastern Utah call list.

Cascade Container operates from a Salt Lake City depot and lists dry, refrigerated and office containers. Rentals have a one-month minimum and then run month to month; delivery should be confirmed in the written quote (cascadecontainer.com, Ogden page, container rentals page and 1 other page, checked September 11, 2026). Pick it when refrigeration or an office container near Salt Lake City is the requirement.

Montana and Idaho. MoCan Containers has Billings and Bozeman yards and lists 20 ft and 40 ft storage. It offers terms from a single month to longer arrangements and offers delivery and pickup, including long distances (mocanmt.com, locations page, rentals page and 1 other page, checked September 11, 2026). It is storage-only on the pages reviewed, so do not put it on an office call sheet.

Pacific Mobile Structures has a Boise yard and lists storage containers and mobile office trailers. Its site states no minimum lease term and says in-stock standard buildings typically deliver within one to two business days (pacificmobile.com, locations page, FAQ page and 1 other page, checked September 11, 2026). Consider it when the Boise job requires a trailer and a short stated lead time.

Mobile Modular Portable Storage has Longmont, Salt Lake City and Boise branches. It lists storage, office, combo and refrigerated containers, uses 30-day renewable periods, and says delivery occurs within days (mobilemodularcontainers.com, Colorado location page, Utah location page and 4 other pages, checked September 11, 2026). Pick it when one of those container formats and a renewable period fits.

Storage south of Denver. Haulaway Storage Containers operates from Castle Rock and lists 10, 20, 26 and 40 ft storage. It describes short- or long-term rentals and says delivery usually occurs within one business day (haulaway.com, Colorado page, about storage containers page and 2 other pages, checked September 11, 2026). It does not list a mobile office, so it is a storage call only.

Where JOLT's one-yard model fits

JOLT operates from one yard at 60 Spring Creek Road in Gypsum, Colorado and uses its own truck. It publishes every rent, deposit, recurring fee and delivery-zone charge on pricing. Its occupied units are ground-level offices made from one-trip ISO shells. The 20 ft Base office has shore power, mini-split heat and cooling, a steel door, two barred windows, lights, outlets and vinyl-plank flooring. Grid-Free adds WATCH, CONNECT and POWER. Alpine adds its roof, deck, cedar surrounds and backup heat. A separate 40 ft office has an enclosed bathroom.

JOLT fits when a mountain job needs one of those formats and the buyer wants stated rates before a call. It does not replace an operator offering office trailers, refrigerated boxes, modular complexes or heavy equipment on the same account. It also does not sell storage containers.

Delivery spans Colorado Zones A–E and Zone F in Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and Montana. Standard delivery is 2–4 weeks from confirmation. JOLT Express puts an eligible Base 20 ft office on site within 7 business days. Zone F carries a 12-month minimum, and its pickup is quoted in writing before delivery.

If the old request was to purchase

A former Pac-Van search may be about ownership rather than rental. JOLT sells new office containers only: the three 20 ft office tiers and the 40 ft office with bathroom. It does not sell used or cargo-worthy boxes and does not sell storage containers. The 20 ft office purchase page shows the three office builds. Their sale figures include delivery within Zones A–B. A buyer should still plan the pad, route, utility work and any permitting that applies at the destination.

Lease-to-own is available on the three 20 ft office tiers in 24-month and 36-month schedules. Title transfers on the final payment under the written agreement. The 40 ft office is sold outright rather than offered through lease-to-own.

Use lease-to-own when ownership is the intended end state but a scheduled payment path fits cash planning better than an outright purchase. Use ordinary rental when the project is temporary and returning the unit is part of demobilization. Compare the full scheduled payments and responsibilities, not only the monthly line.

Build one clean request

Send each selected operator the same short scope: job ZIP, unit format, occupancy, size, delivery week, expected months, power, bathroom need, site clearance and preferred pickup notice. Ask for monthly rent, minimum term, delivery, pickup, recurring fees, insurance or waiver requirements, annual increases and cancellation treatment as separate lines.
