JOLT does not sell used shipping containers in Colorado, and it does not sell empty storage containers in any condition. JOLT rents one-trip storage units from $225/mo per month and sells or leases to own new 20 ft office containers, so a shopper set on a used box should inspect and buy from another seller.

What do used container grades mean?

Used-container labels are condition descriptions, not complete inspection reports. Terms such as cargo worthy, wind and watertight and as-is can indicate different expectations, but the actual box, written condition promise and seller's delivery scope matter more than a label by itself.

The one-trip versus used comparison explains the common condition ladder and the practical tradeoffs between wear, repair history and intended use. The one-trip definition explains how a near-new shell reaches Colorado and why one trip still allows handling marks.

Do not infer appearance from a grade. A serviceable used box may show dents, repairs, rust, paint wear or floor patches. An as-is sale may transfer repair work to you. Ask the seller to put the promised condition, identification number and any exclusions in the purchase document.

A CSC plate is useful evidence to examine, but it does not replace checking the current shell. Match identifiers across the box and paperwork. Ask what the seller knows about prior cargo, repairs and structural work, then decide whether that history is acceptable for the intended storage use.

What should you ask a used-box seller?

Arrange an in-person inspection of the exact unit whenever possible. Stock photos or a grade name cannot show how that particular door operates, whether daylight enters through the shell, or whether the underside and floor have damage relevant to your use.

Open and close both cargo doors yourself. Watch how the locking rods move and whether the doors bind. Examine gaskets, lower door edges and the threshold. Stand inside with the doors closed and look for daylight, while recognizing that a simple light check does not reveal every possible water path.

Inspect roof bows, top and bottom rails, corner posts and corner castings for deformation or repairs. Walk the floor and examine it from below where access allows. Ask whether soft areas, patches, chemical odors or coating work are present. If the planned contents are sensitive, make that requirement explicit in writing.

Confirm who owns the box now and who signs the sale record. The document should identify the exact unit rather than merely promise a box of a general grade. Keep photos from the inspection and compare the delivered identifier with the one you approved.

How should delivery be written?

A container purchase is also a heavy-haul and placement decision. Ask where the unit starts, who provides the truck, who unloads it, and which truck or trailer method will be used. Confirm whether delivery is included in the seller's stated amount without asking for an informal estimate.

Give the actual site address and describe gate width, turns, slope, overhead lines, trees, soft ground and seasonal access. Ask the carrier for required straight-line clearance and whether the box can be oriented with the cargo doors where you need them. A general promise to deliver is not enough for a constrained site.

Put failed-delivery responsibility in writing. Clarify what happens if the route, pad or placement point is not ready, and what happens if the selected equipment cannot safely enter. Also confirm whether blocking or leveling is included and who supplies any required supports.

Local permission remains your responsibility unless the purchase agreement expressly says otherwise. Check zoning, building, fire, access and property rules for the exact parcel before dispatch. Ownership of a steel box does not create a right to place it wherever space appears available.

When does renting beat buying a used box?

Renting often fits a short construction phase, a changing completion date or a job where no company yard can retain the box afterward. You use the storage for the project, provide written pickup notice and let the rental company retrieve it instead of arranging a sale or another move.

JOLT's 20 ft storage rent is $295/mo per month. For a planned term, multiply that published monthly line by the number of months you expect to keep the box, then add the applicable recurring fees and both transport legs. Do not compare one month of rent with an entire ownership period.

The 10, 12 and 20 ft storage units have a 1-month minimum in Zones A–E. The 40 ft storage unit has a 3-month minimum. Zone F applies a 12-month minimum to every unit, with published delivery and a pickup amount quoted in writing before delivery.

Rent can also remove the need to source a suitable truck for the next project. It does not remove site duties: you still need a firm, level, well-drained pad, a clear route and any required local approval. Rent continues until retrieval after at least 15 days' written notice.

Buying may fit when secure storage will be used repeatedly, a permanent compliant location is ready and your company can manage future transport and eventual disposal. The decision should include idle time and movement between sites, not just whether the first job lasts longer than the rental minimum.

When does a new office beat converting a used box?

A used storage box is not a finished office. Turning one into regular workspace requires a design for insulation, interior finish, electrical service, heating and cooling, a personnel door, windows and penetrations. Site-built conversion work also needs coordination, inspection and weather protection while the box is being altered.

JOLT's new Base office already includes spray-foam insulation, finished walls, vinyl-plank floor, a steel personnel door, two barred slider windows, lights, outlets and a mini-split for heating and cooling. It costs $17,500 delivered within Zones A–B, with applicable sales tax separate.

The point is not that every storage need requires an office. If you only need lockable material space, rent or buy a box suited to storage. If people need to work inside daily, compare a completed office against the full scope, schedule and compliance work of converting a used shell.

Lease-to-own provides another path for a business that wants the finished office but prefers monthly payments. The Base 36-month plan is $845/mo, and title transfers in writing after the final payment. The three-way guide compares rent, both plan lengths and cash purchase by tier.

Grid-Free and Alpine are also new 20 ft office builds. Grid-Free includes WATCH, CONNECT and POWER with a battery configured to run its HVAC. Alpine adds a standing-seam over-roof, covered entry deck, cedar surrounds and backup heat. Choose those builds only when the included systems solve the operating condition.

What can JOLT provide instead?

For storage, JOLT rents one-trip units in four lengths. These are rental choices only; none is offered for sale.

The smaller three storage sizes carry a 1-month minimum in Zones A–E, while the 40 ft unit carries a 3-month minimum. Every Zone F rental requires 12 months. Delivery and pickup are separate from monthly rent, and recurring invoice lines are shown on pricing.

JOLT's 20 ft storage option is a one-trip rental rather than a used container offered for sale.

For workspace, JOLT sells new 20 ft Base, Grid-Free and Alpine offices and offers 24- or 36-month lease-to-own plans on each. The 40 ft office with bathroom can be rented or purchased outright, but it is not part of the lease-to-own program. JOLT does not sell storage containers.

If your immediate need is temporary storage, use reserve and enter the physical site address to see the delivery week and listed charges before payment. If you want a new office purchase, use the Bill of Sale request on the 20 ft buy page. For a requirement that does not fit either path, send the exact use, size, address and timing through contact.
