A 20 ft storage container rents for $295/mo from JOLT, while a 20 ft office runs from $795/mo for Base to $1,895/mo for Alpine. The monthly line is only one part of the job cost: delivery and pickup, a deposit, recurring fees, sales tax and selected upgrades also belong in the estimate.
What does storage cost by size?
Storage rent changes with the box length, door arrangement and minimum term. The 20 ft storage container is a one-trip, standard-height ISO box with cargo doors, four lock bars and a welded lockbox; it has no window or personnel door and carries a 1-month minimum.
The 40 ft storage unit is a one-trip high cube, 9 ft 6 in tall, with cargo doors and a lockbox. Its longer floor and added height suit bulk stock, but its 3-month minimum and 100 ft delivery clearance make it a different commitment from the 20 ft box.
The 10 ft and 12 ft boxes are walk-in units with a personnel door and barred window. Both use a 1-month minimum, making them useful where the work needs frequent individual access rather than pallet loading through double cargo doors.

Start with the actual material list rather than choosing only on monthly rent. A shorter walk-in box may save site length and simplify tool-crib traffic, while a 40 ft high cube can prevent the crew from paying for two placements when one long box fits.
Published rates, deposits and fees are collected on the pricing page. That keeps the comparison tied to the same date and prevents an old proposal from being treated as the current schedule.

What does an office container cost each month?
All three JOLT 20 ft office tiers begin with an 8 ft wide by 8 ft 6 in tall ISO container office. Each has a 36-inch steel personnel door, two barred slider windows, mini-split heating and cooling, a 50-amp shore-power inlet, lights, outlets, vinyl-plank flooring and a 3-month minimum.

3-month minimum on every office; $750 reservation deposit.
Base is the direct ground-level field office. It gives a superintendent a heated and cooled room without bundling camera, internet or solar hardware into the monthly unit rate, so a site with temporary electrical service can keep the package simple.
Grid-Free adds WATCH, CONNECT and POWER as built-in systems. Its 10 kWh battery can run the HVAC without shore power, which separates it from the standard POWER upgrade that is sized for Starlink, the camera, lights and laptops rather than the mini-split.
Alpine adds a mountain envelope to Base: matte black finish, cedar surrounds, a standing-seam over-roof, covered entry deck and backup heat. Crews comparing office details can review the 20 ft office family and the broader mobile office rental cost guide.
Monthly office rent does not turn a unit into a dwelling. Sleeping and living in any unit are prohibited, and utility connections must use the provided inlets and a licensed electrician as required by Rental Agreement §7.
Which charges get added to rent?
Delivery is charged for the outbound trip and pickup is charged for the return trip. Zones A through E use the same fee each way; Zone F has a 12-month minimum and its pickup charge is quoted in writing before delivery.
| Zone | Towns | Delivery | Pickup |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zone A | Gypsum, Eagle, Edwards, Avon, Beaver Creek | $400 | $400 |
| Zone B | Vail, Minturn, Glenwood Springs | $550 | $550 |
| Zone C | Breckenridge, Frisco, Silverthorne, Keystone, Carbondale, Basalt, Aspen, Snowmass | $750 | $750 |
| Zone D | Steamboat Springs, Leadville, Grand Junction | $950 | $950 |
| Zone E | Idaho Springs, Georgetown, Evergreen, Golden, Morrison, Lakewood, Arvada, Aurora, Centennial, Littleton, Boulder, Castle Rock, Denver | $1,200 | $1,200 |
| Zone F — Mountain West12-month minimum | WY, ID, UT, MT | $1,795 | Pickup quoted separately before delivery |
The reservation deposit holds a specific unit and delivery window, then is applied to the first invoice under Rental Agreement §2. Storage units use $350, while office and 40 ft units use $750.
The standard damage waiver is 12% of rent plus recurring upgrades. The environmental fee is 5% of those same lines, and applicable sales tax is extra; the waiver terms and exclusions are stated in Rental Agreement §12.
Upgrades are recurring choices rather than part of plain storage or Base office rent. WATCH supplies a solar LTE panoramic camera with motion alerts and cloud clips, CONNECT supplies Starlink Mini with a router and 50 GB Roam plan, and POWER supplies two panels rated at 400 W each, a 3 kWh LFP battery and an inverter.
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
WATCH Your site has eyes | $129 /mo |
CONNECT Starlink on the box | $259 /mo |
POWER Solar and battery, no generator | $399 /mo |
READY Furnished on day one | $125 /mo |
| $699 /mo |
Upgrades stack on any office or storage container and bill monthly with the rent.
READY adds a plan table, two chairs, whiteboard, mini-fridge, microwave and 1,500 W heater. JOLT Pack combines WATCH, CONNECT and POWER, while second-camera and unlimited-Starlink options let a site extend those systems without changing the container size.
What does the first Frisco invoice look like?
Take a 20 ft storage rental delivered to Frisco. Frisco is in Zone C, so the outbound trip appears at Zone C — $750 each way alongside the first month at the published storage rate.
The storage deposit paid at reservation comes back as a credit on that same invoice under §2. It holds the unit and the window; it is not an extra month of rent.
The damage waiver and environmental fee are calculated from rent and any recurring upgrades, and sales tax is added where applicable. A plain storage rental without upgrades therefore has fewer recurring lines than one carrying WATCH or the JOLT Pack.
Do not add the future pickup charge to the monthly rate when comparing proposals, but do put it in the project budget. In Zone C, retrieval uses the same published fee as delivery, and rent continues until JOLT retrieves the empty, accessible unit after the required notice.
The invoice can change if the placement is not ready. If the truck arrives but cannot deliver, the trip fee remains due, another trip is charged, and waiting time begins after the first 30 minutes under Rental Agreement §5.
How do minimum terms change the real monthly math?
A minimum term is the shortest rent commitment, not a discount period. The 20 ft, 12 ft and 10 ft storage boxes have a 1-month minimum; the 40 ft storage box and office units have a 3-month minimum; every Zone F rental has a 12-month minimum.
Match the unit to the schedule before comparing monthly numbers. A 6-week need fits within the structure of a 1-month storage minimum but still runs until retrieval, while an office reserved for the same short phase remains subject to its 3-month minimum.
Rental timing also has an operational tail. The customer gives at least 15 days of written pickup notice, keeps the access lane open and removes property and attachments, while rent continues through retrieval under Rental Agreement §16.
For a 12-month planning sheet, list each month rather than multiplying one number and stopping. Rent increases by 5% on each anniversary of delivery, so a rental extending beyond the first anniversary needs a new monthly line from that date forward.
The anniversary increase applies to renewals, not the delivery zone fee already charged for the outbound leg. Separate time-sensitive rent from trip charges, deposits and possible site costs so the superintendent can see which schedule delay changes which number.
A useful schedule has four dates: requested delivery, expected end of use, written pickup notice and physical retrieval. If the work slips, move all four deliberately instead of assuming the unit disappears from billing when a trade finishes.
Do not assume a short final month is prorated. Build the estimate around full billing periods and the stated minimum, then read the reservation terms for any start or end detail.
For storage, a short finish-material phase may justify the 1-month minimum because the crew can empty the box as soon as installation ends. For an office, plan around the 3-month floor even if the superintendent expects to occupy it for only part of the third month.
Zone F changes the duration comparison most sharply. A 12-month minimum can outweigh a low monthly unit rate when a Wyoming, Idaho, Utah or Montana project only needs temporary storage for one season, so the term decision belongs ahead of the unit decision.
When should renting give way to buying?
Renting fits a defined phase when the office or storage requirement ends with mobilization, enclosure, finish work or turnover. JOLT owns the unit throughout the rental, and it remains personal property however it is attached under Rental Agreement §6.
Buying starts to deserve a separate estimate when the business has another site ready, wants permanent control over modifications or expects years rather than months of use. The useful comparison includes purchase delivery, eventual moving, storage between projects and the value of having capital tied up in the box.
The rent-or-buy break-even works through those variables month by month. JOLT publishes purchase prices for the Base, Grid-Free and Alpine 20 ft offices and the 40 ft office with bathroom, with delivery included in Zones A and B and other zones quoted.
Lease-to-own offers 24-month and 36-month paths on the 20 ft office. It is a different commitment from a short rental, so compare the entire term and ownership objective rather than only its monthly payment.
A superintendent should also ask who handles the unit after this project. Rental includes a defined retrieval process; ownership leaves the contractor responsible for the next site, transport, storage and any local approval attached to its next use.
Why can mountain delivery cost more than Front Range delivery?
JOLT dispatches from 60 Spring Creek Rd in Gypsum, beside the I-70 corridor in Eagle County. The zones group trips by practical distance from that yard, so nearby valley towns fall into lower zones while Summit County, distant mountain markets and the Front Range occupy later zones.
Distance is only the published fee category; the site still has to work for the truck. A 20 ft unit needs about 70 ft of straight-line clearance and a 40 ft unit needs about 100 ft, along with a firm, level, well-drained surface, adequate overhead clearance, road width, turning radius and grade.
Mountain sites often lose usable clearance to plowed snow, narrow switchbacks, gate posts and staged materials. Denver sites can have broad roads yet tighter alleys, occupied parking lanes and overhead utilities, so the Denver location details and delivery zones should be checked against the actual address.
The customer marks utilities, secures permits and consents, and provides a representative at delivery. Placement damage directed by that representative belongs to the customer, and the customer may not move or lift the unit after delivery.
If the work sequence changes, an on-site move by JOLT is $450. Planning the final pad before delivery is usually cleaner than paying for a later move because a crane setup, excavation or winter stockpile captured the original lane.
How should you compare two rental proposals?
Normalize every quote into recurring, one-time and conditional lines. A low monthly figure does not answer the job-cost question if delivery, pickup, setup, deposits and required accessories appear elsewhere.
| Cost line | What to record | When it occurs |
|---|---|---|
| Unit rent | Exact size and configuration | Every rental month |
| Recurring fees | Waiver, environmental fee and tax treatment | Every applicable invoice |
| Upgrades | Camera, internet, power or furnishings | While selected |
| Delivery and pickup | Fee for each trip | At mobilization and retrieval |
| Deposit | Amount and invoice treatment | At reservation, then credited |
| Site work | Pad, access and temporary utilities | Before or during placement |
Use the same expected dates in both estimates. A proposal with a 1-month minimum and another with a 3-month minimum are not comparable until the project duration and pickup notice are applied to each.
Then compare the physical result. Cargo doors, a personnel door, HVAC, bathroom access, high-cube height and off-grid power solve different field problems, and choosing the wrong format can cost more in lost time than the rent difference.
Ask whether quoted options are removable at the end of a phase. A camera or internet package can follow the rental schedule, while customer-built shelving, unauthorized penetrations or painted markings create return problems because drilling, cutting, welding and painting the unit are prohibited.
Also distinguish a site relocation from a pickup and fresh delivery. JOLT publishes a flat on-site relocation fee, but the new location still needs a safe route, prepared pad and authorized representative; the customer cannot shift the box with project equipment.
Finally, give accounting the same labels used in the proposal. “Container cost” is too broad for invoice review when it combines rent, a refundable deposit, two truck trips and recurring percentages that behave differently.
What should be ready before you reserve?
Choose the size and configuration, placement address, expected rental period and required upgrades. Confirm whether the crew needs cargo-door storage, walk-in access, a Base office, a self-powered Grid-Free office or an Alpine package.
Measure the straight delivery lane and inspect width, turns, grade, overhead lines and the final pad. Keep about 70 ft clear for a 20 ft unit or 100 ft for a 40 ft unit, mark buried utilities, and assign one representative who can direct the driver.
Check permits, zoning, HOA or landlord approval before committing the placement. Record the applicable zone fee, deposit, recurring fees and pickup leg next to monthly rent, then align the required written pickup notice with the project schedule.
Questions contractors ask
What is the monthly rent for a 20 ft storage container?
The 20 ft storage unit rents at the published monthly rate with a 1-month minimum. See the current unit rate and all recurring charges on the [pricing page](/pricing).
Does monthly container rent include delivery?
No, delivery and pickup are separate charges based on one of six geographic zones. Zones A through E use the same published fee for each leg, while Zone F pickup is quoted before delivery.
Is a reservation deposit an extra rental charge?
The refundable deposit reserves one unit and is applied to the first invoice under [Rental Agreement §2](/legal/rental-agreement-terms#2). A written cancellation more than 14 days before the first day of the delivery window qualifies for a full refund.
What recurring fees appear with monthly rent?
The standard invoice includes a damage waiver calculated as a percentage of rent and recurring upgrades, plus an environmental fee and applicable sales tax. The [pricing page](/pricing) publishes all three recurring items without hiding them in the unit rate.
How long is the minimum rental term?
The 20 ft, 12 ft and 10 ft storage units have a 1-month minimum, while the 40 ft storage and office units have a 3-month minimum. Zone F rentals carry a 12-month minimum regardless of unit.
Does the monthly rate change during a long rental?
Rent increases by the published annual escalator on each delivery anniversary. A 10-month project ends before that first anniversary, while a 14-month project crosses it.
How much notice is needed for pickup?
Give at least 15 days of written notice under [Rental Agreement §16](/legal/rental-agreement-terms#16). Rent continues until the unit is retrieved, so the notice date alone does not stop month 1 or any later billing period.
Can I add power, internet or a camera?
Yes, POWER, CONNECT and WATCH are monthly upgrades that can be fitted to one rental unit. Their current rates and the combined JOLT Pack rate appear on the [pricing page](/pricing).
